What’s Involved in Project Planning

Project planning begins with defining your goals—are you improving for lifestyle, resale, or structural upgrades? From there, the process typically includes:

  • Scope of Works: Listing all tasks, from initial concept to final handover.

  • Budgeting: Estimating costs for materials, labour, permits, and professional services.

  • Design & Layout: Working with architects or designers to create functional, appealing spaces.

  • Approvals & Permits: Lodging applications with local councils for structural or plumbing changes.

  • Scheduling: Coordinating trades, deliveries, and inspections to keep the project on track.

  • Contingency Planning: Setting aside 10–20% of your budget for unexpected costs.

Service Price
Commercial Percentage of total project cost or Hourly rate (if partial involvement) 5% – 25%, $100.00 - $350.00 per person per hour or Depends on complexity and consultant seniority
Residential 3% – 5% For full-service management from design to handover
Hourly rate of $43.00 -$100.00 per person & per hour
Renovation Fixed fee or percentage $5,000 – $15,000 in Sydney
3% -6% Percentage of total renovation cost or Higher due to unpredictability and site constraints
